DEAR EDITOR - I too am a Stoke Prior resident and it seems to me that the idea proposed by the parish council regarding the Ryfields Road garage site is not at all ludicrous but could well be extremely beneficial to our village.
At the moment the youngsters are hanging around on street corners and by the village shop because they have nowhere else to go. If they had a youth centre, properly supervised, surely this would be a bonus to the present situation. Again the Scout hut is in need of a facelift but surely not demolition.
As for the proposed car park, I have strong connections with another Worcestershire village, whose school uses a car park further away from the school than ours would be. All parents use this, as I'm sure our school parents would be happy to do this for the safety of their children, as at the moment our school parking is an accident waiting to happen.
The other thing to consider is that the district council plan is to develop this site with housing society dwellings. Could this not bring a possible undesirable element into the village? Another concern is would we lose access to the playing field? If we did how could the field be maintained? This would be taking something else away from the youngsters. Where else could they go to play in safety?
I feel this is a very important issue for the whole village of Stoke Prior. At the moment our village is a very pleasant and trouble free environment and we must do our best to keep it this way.
