MEMBERS arrived for their July meeting to find out there was a power cut, however, much to everyone's relief, the power was quickly restored and the meeting was able to commence without too much delay.
The president, Hazel Aston, warmly welcomed 28 members and two guests - and then congratulated the birthday girls of the month. Each received a card and everyone's best wishes.
Best wishes were also sent to Margaret Gould, who is recovering from a recent major operation.
Doreen Croxton then gave a most interesting account of her and Joyce Bottomly's, recent visit to Denman College. They had thoroughly enjoyed their day and encouraged other members to visit Denman when they had the opportunity.
Doreen was then asked to make the draw for the current Denman bursary. This was won by Joyce Handy.
Ex-president, Cynthia Caldicott, extended an invitation to all members to join her at her home for an evening get together and refreshments on Monday August 18 at 6.30pm. Cynthia always provides delicious cakes and desserts and the evening is eagerly anticipated.
Hazel then introduced the speaker, Paul McGuire, who entertained members with a nostalgic musical quiz.
There will be no meeting in August. The next meeting will take place on September 8 at 7.30pm.
