ON a very hot and humid evening, the president Maureen Smith welcomed the members to the meeting.

Kath Davis was given a special welcome. She is now the group co-ordinator. It was agreed that the social evening at Catshill W.I had been a very enjoyable evening. The coffee evening in aid of cancer charities has raised £100. Catherine Healey, at whose home the coffee evening had been held, thanked everyone for their support. It was announced that a Harvest Supper was to take place in October.

Kath Davis gave details of a resolution she wished to present for the consideration of the selection committee. Members agreed that it should go forward for consideration. The county news letter was read and the report of the AGM written by the delegate, Jill Finden of Finstall W.I, was also presented to the meeting.

The August and September birthday girls were given their greetings. A very special birthday celebration was that of June Wilson who would be 90 on August 20.

The speaker, Alan Benjamin, was introduced. His subject, "Constabulary Tales". He gave an amusing and light-hearted narrative. From the boarding school he attended, joining the police cadets, having no desire for an academic career. His interview for the cadets and his subsequent medical was described with much hilarity and vastly enjoyed by his attentive audience. He told of his training and of his early days on the beat. On behalf of the members Doris Passey gave the vote of thanks.

The monthly competition was won by Chris Paget.
