FOLLOWING the article that appeared in the Advertiser on July 23, 'Motor Firms Cash Blow', I would like to clarify the following points.
Although the Birmingham to Worcestershire High Technology Corridor was developed as a result of the Rover Task Force report, it is not a package of support for firms involved in the motor industry.
Rather, it is an initiative that aims to diversify the economic base away from traditional industries into new technologies.
The initiative aims to attract and develop hi-tech, high value-added businesses to take advantage of the presence of research institutions, universities and property opportunities.
There is a particular emphasis on acquiring and developing a portfolio of sites to support the growth of high technology business clusters.
Both the Regional Development Agency and the Chamber of Commerce and Business Link provide assistance available to local manufacturers generally, and specific programmes are available for those involved in the automotive industry through the Accelerate Programme.
Various support is available to assist with the modernisation and diversification of manufacturing companies in addition to supply chain development.
Any businesses interested in these support mechanisms can contact Business Link on 0800 104010 or Advantage West Midlands on 0121 380 3603.
