A MARTIAL arts expert held a free self-defence session for physically disabled people in Worcester.
Despite being born with two deformed feet, Peter Lewis, is ranked senior associate instructor and has a Fifth Dan Black Belt, which makes him one of the country's top martial artists.
The 43-year-old held the one-off class after being contacted by Say It Yourself, a charity that encourages disabled people to become independent.
The session which was held at Lyppard Grange Community Centre, Warndon Villages, was attended by three people in wheelchairs, one with visual impairment and one with cerebral palsy.
"It went really well. They all got a lot out of it," said Mr Lewis.
"We did a few basic techniques on awareness and confidence, how not to get involved with verbal confrontation and staying calm."
Mr Lewis, who has worked with several rape victims in the past, will also be conducting a free training session in August for volunteers at Worcestershire Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre, a rape support group.
Mr Lewis, has just opened a new self-defence club in Malvern at The Wyche Institute, Old Wyche Road, on Wednesdays from 7pm to 8pm.
