SAFER routes to schools are to be introduced in Tenbury following consultations with staff and pupils at Tenbury High and Tenbury Primary schools.
The initiative from Worcester-shire County Council, is aimed at identifying problems experienced by those travelling to and from the two schools. Engin-eers who have looked into them have come up with solutions that will hopefully encourage pupils to walk, cycle or use public transport to school, instead of being driven by car.
Discussions have identified a possible major pedestrian route leading from the High Street, crossing the Bromyard Road into Kyreside, along the footpath to the end of the Primary School, emerging onto Cross Street and Pembroke Avenue, at Pembroke House meeting an already good pedestrian route into town.
Improvements to the footway from the High School to Pembroke Avenue, are planned for later in the year, costing £30,000. Funds will come from Safer Routes to School Project. Sometime in the future, the footpath will be segregated for use by cyclists and pedestrians.
Plans are on display at both schools and letters and questionnaires will also be sent to homes along the routes.
Comments from residents, parents, pupils and staff are invited and should be sent to the Worcestershire Transportation Alliance, c/o Halcrow UK Ltd. Safer Routes, Red Hill House, 227 London Road, Worcester WR5 2JG.
