LET me please put my view of the meeting relating to flood defences on Severnside South in Bewdley
The purpose of that meeting was for Severn Trent Water and the Environment Agency to inform us what is going to happen in the next few weeks, with the closure of Severnside South and Lax Lane to through-traffic while Transco, Aquila and Severn Trent complete the preliminary work before the flood defence scheme can be started.
Concerns were certainly raised by residents, who may lose their on-street parking after the flood alleviation work is completed.
This is not a matter for the Environment Agency or Severn Trent to resolve. And yes, we shall all miss the bandstand - but that structure was effectively dismantled many years ago when its top was removed.
The siting of a bandstand in Severnside South is useless anyway because you cannot hear the music for the noise of traffic on the bridge.
Build us another bandstand, please, in Jubilee Gardens.
The important point here is that six months ago we thought the flood scheme had been scrapped, and now it will be completed.
