A HUSBAND-and-wife team sitting on Bewdley Town Council have called ideas for this year's Christmas lights "tacky" and "in bad taste".
The comments were made by Frank and Mavis Baillie after hearing the latest proposals for the festive season at Monday's meeting of Bewdley Town Council.
Mr Baillie - who finished his term as mayor of the town in May - slammed the bid to dress the Guildhall on Load Street with a "static light curtain" at the cost of £504.
He said: "In my view this is in bad taste. I would rather see money being spent on permanent illumination of the Guildhall so it can be lit at any time of the year.
"This kind of thing does nothing for me at all."
Mr Baillie remained defiant as the rest of council voted for the lights but then it was his wife Mavis's turn to show her disapproval.
She said the purchase of 100 electric stars - at £8 each - to be hung in the streets would draw attention away from a similar display at St Anne's Church in the town centre.
She said: "It is rather tacky. I like the star at St Anne's Church - putting these stars up would detract from this."
Voting on the issue was put off until the next meeting of the council on September 1.
