MANAGEMENT at the Three Counties Showground says it has axed two events from its schedule after complaints about noise and disruption.

Showground chief executive Gareth Smith told members of Malvern Wells Parish Council that the Kit Car Show and American Extravaganza would no longer take place.

"There are two events that caused particular problems and they will not be coming back," said Mr Smith. "We want to see fewer events but more quality."

But Lizzie Diamond, organiser of the American Extravaganza, denied it had been axed and said the group had decided to move.

"We were not cut. We decided we did not wish to carry on using the venue as we had problems dealing with the new management. We now use another showground."

Mr Smith said the move, expected to cost the showground about £20,000, was one of the measures introduced in response to issues raised over the number of events held at the showground and problems for neighbours.

He said liaison officers would be present at future events and would be responsible for mediating between event organisers and the public. A voluntary code of conduct would also be in place.

Mr Smith pointed out that despite numerous complaints about noise levels, the showground had never breached any legal sound limitations.

"We have asked event organisers to ensure PA systems are pointed downwards and inwards in future," he said.

The plans were greeted with enthusiasm by the parish council.

"It's very good that channels of communication have been opened," said parish clerk Susan Hughes.
