GARDENING SOCIETY: The July Meeting was visiting Members' Gardens. Five Gardens belonging to members were open in Bidford, Broom and Cleeve Prior. Despite the hot dry weather and then a day of rain, the evening was a pleasant one. All the gardens were of a very high standard, with wonderful colour and not a weed in sight. Mr and Mrs Reed's garden was only three years old, but the garden was full of plants with all the surrounding fencing completely covered with climbing plants. Mr and Kidson had the advantage of an old walled garden, but they had transformed the flower beds into a very colourful display. Hilda Wakeham's garden showed members what can be done in a small space and her expertly grown pots plants were the envy of all the members. Mr and Mrs McNaught's garden was very well planned and again was full of variety of perennials, shrubs and trees, as well as climbing plants all over the house and fences. Mr and Mrs Nelson's garden had been a wood wilderness two years ago and is now a beautiful garden complete with ponds and greenhouse. All the members who allowed us to visit are to be congratulated. Next meeting: Summer SHow on August 21 at the Crawford Hall. Staging of exhibits is from 6pm top 7pm, show opens at 8pm. Visitors are welcome to go along and view the show.
