During the Coronation year many annual village institutions such a flower shows were allowed to lapse for a year. In some cases these fetes or shows have been weakened by the break, but more often they have been strengthened, among these Badsey Flower Show must surely be reckoned. Mr W W Blake, the efficient hon. secretary of the undertaking, stated that this year was the biggest show in the history of the institution, the entries numbering 394 altogether, whereas they had always been nearer 300 than 400 before. The exhibits were staged in a field at the back of the Vicarage.

Honeybourne annual lamb sale was held on Wednesday by Messrs E G Righton and Son, of Evesham. The sale was a record one, between 5,000 and 6,000 lambs being penned. The lambs were in fine condition and looked very healthy and clean and great credit is due to master and man for their splendid appearance. The greater portion of the lambs were sold in lots of 40 and 50 and made up to 73s 6d., several lots making nearer the same. The prices generally were from 45s to 60s, and fat wethers made up to 89s.

This is a great week for the Avon. A new vigour is being breathed into it, new shapes and colours are appearing in the scene, new beauties are being added to the landscape and new trade is coming too. The river is powerfully reasserting itself as a first-class holiday playground. Yet for those in Evesham who wish to see what saving the Avon is really going to mean, it is necessary to be somewhere on the river between Tewkesbury and Wyre. Upon those 15 miles of water, boats of all kinds are rallying from many counties. There is a vision of the Avon valley's future as an important resort.

Costain Ltd., the builders, this week disclosed their intentions for the Broadway housing site which was the subject of controversy earlier this year when a scheme incorporating Greater London Council bungalows was heavily opposed. Wheeler and Mansell sold the land to Costain who have now produce outline plans for 75 homes, a mix comprising 43 three-bedroomed houses, 20 four-bedroom houses and 12 two-bedroomed bungalows. There is a planning permission in force for 90 to 100 houses on the eight to nine-acre plot of land off Sands Close so that the 75-house scheme would be to a lower density than the original plan.
