A FLOWER bed in Upton will look more colourful -if one of the town's district councillors has her way.
Coun Mary Wilkinson has petitioned Malvern Hills District Council to change rules governing what can be grown because she believes the bed near the Pepperpot is letting the town down.
To save money the council decided around three years ago to replace bedding plants with shrubs but Coun Wilkinson wants a reversal.
"Shrubs are a cheaper option for the whole district - we've saved about £9,000 a year," she admitted.
"But I'm thinking now let's be a little bit more lenient because the rest of the town is full of colour. Upton is a jewel of a town and we are letting it down."
Coun Wilkinson said she feared Upton would not be able to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Rotary Club. She has been given the logo by the club but says she can't make the arrangement with shrubs.
The council's head of environmental services, Paul Bryon, confirmed that the idea would be considered at the overview and scrutiny committee meeting next month.
