I am a parent of one of the children at Malvern Link CE School involved in the independent investigation which described the school as "institutionally racist" (Malvern Gazette, July 4)
While I believe the Malvern Gazette deserves credit for reporting this issue in detail, I feel I must respond to some of the misinformed comments made by some readers in the letters pages, particularly those questioning the motives of the parents in bringing this action.
Blame for the fact this matter ever came before an investigative panel lies wholly with the school, because it has continually ignored the parents' concerns.
Throughout, the headmistress and the chairman of governors have failed to provide an explanation for why they treated our children as they did. The issue was never even put before the Board of Governors and, as several readers have pointed out, the school couldn't even be bothered to send a representative to the hearing. One can only conclude that they simply don't take the issue of equal treatment of the pupils in their care seriously. We, meanwhile, are still waiting for answers
Two letters have described this as a "suspect allegation" or being brought about by "persons of ill-will".
In fact, the sole motive for the parents involved has only ever been for the fair treatment of their children in the school. Since the readers who wrote those comments cannot possibly know the details of this matter, I can only say to them that their attitudes are, in fact, no better than those of the school, well defined by the MacPherson report as "unwitting and thoughtless."
