NEW president Father Nino Papandreou has taken over the leadership of Evesham Vale Lions Club at a Handover Night ceremony at The BBC Club, Evesham.
Outgoing president Peter Mace paid tribute to the few remaining members who had continued to serve others in the community with an enviable record, particularly in the provision of Tacade, young people's teaching aids, to local schools.
He said Evesham Vale Lions had also supported oversees project work with funding three young local students, and also awarded Good Citizenship awards to students at Evesham, Pershore and Prince Henry's High Schools.
Mr Mace said funds were in hand for the new Acorns Children's Hospice and club members were currently waiting to help a six-year-old local girl with a severe illness.
"The Lions want to make a difference and have achieves success by the active support of all club members," Mr Mace said.
More members is the goal and a Meet the Lions evening will take place in Bishampton Village Hall on Wednesday, September 17.
During Handover Night, Holly Harding, of Bishampton, talked about her visit to Monserrat, as a member of the UK Guides Association team helping volcano devastated communities. Members will celebrate the 26th anniversary of the Club on August 17.
