MALVERN gained a winning draw on Saturday at Romsley, with another impressive team performance in this Worcestershire County League Division Two fixture.
ROMSLEY AND HUNNINGTON v MALVERN
The Malvern innings was dominated by a superb century from Paul Young, backed by Mark Hooper, who hit an elegant 76.
Malvern captain Luke Halion lost the toss and was put in to bat on a wet wicket.
Mark Hooper and Mark Baugh put on 35 for the first wicket, with Hooper particularly in superb form. Hooper continued to bat in an imperious manner displaying his full range of elegant strokes before falling for a brilliant 76.
Halion and Rob Francis came and went but Paul Young was in typical free scoring mood, scoring off virtually every ball with consummate ease. He found a reasonable partner in David Arnold and they amassed 67 in quick time.
Arnold scored all around the wicket before being cruelly run out for a deserved 30 runs.
Young continued to dominate the bowling and reached a magnificent 100 with another boundary, becoming the third different player from Malvern to score a century this season. Malvern posted a total of 265.
Romsley were quickly in trouble as Francis and Neil Thompson removed both openers swiftly.
Morgan hit a quick 27 before falling to a fine catch by Baugh off Francis, and when the paceman took two more quick wickets Malvern sensed victory.
But the rain, which had been steady for most of the innings, suddenly turned into a downpour and the game finished with Malvern claiming another winning draw.
Mention also must be made of 14-year-old Jonny Dovey, making his first team debut, who bowled an excellent maiden over right at the end and fielded superbly.
