RESIDENTS in Droitwich can look forward to a better life after a new action plan was drawn up.

The plan covers a range of projects and initiatives aimed at meeting local needs and priorities.

These were identified following a range of surveys and research and include:

n A pilot transport scheme to the Royal Worcestershire Hospital from Droitwich and surrounding rural areas.

n Rural safety schemes.

n Rejuvenating the Berry Hill Industrial Estate.

n Transport to take young people home from the Youth House, a drop-in centre which provides services for children

n Broadband internet for people living in rural locations.

n A town heritage trail.

n Health walks and a 'green necklace' of footpaths.

The initiative has been decided by the Droitwich Spa Area Partnership, which is made up of representatives from a range of voluntary, community, statutory and business organisations.

The Droitwich Canals Trust, Wychavon District Council, Spa Town and North Claines councils, Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, and the South Worcestershire Primary Care Trust are just some of those on board.

"Wychavon District Council alone has put up to £40,000 to help fund some of these projects and make them a reality.

"We also hope to attract more funding to benefit the people of Droitwich Spa," said partnership chairman and district councillor Eileen Hope.

And Sue Poyer, Droitwich Spa & Rural Council for Voluntary Services manager, said: "This is a real partnership approach to enhancing the lives of residents in the town."

The partnership is one of three Local Strategic Partnerships (LSPs) in the district of Wychavon set up to respond to community needs. The other two are in Evesham and Pershore.
