TWO months after cheering Wolves back into the top flight Mark Owen is relishing the chance of facing his boyhood team in Monday night's friendly at St George's Lane (7.30).

Worcester City striker Owen was among the Black Country hordes that besieged Cardiff in May for their memorable play-off triumph against Sheffield United at the Millennium Stadium and is still buzzing from the memory.

"It was a fantastic experience but it was a weird game because we were 3-0 up after 25 minutes and after that it felt a bit false," said Owen, who spent two years as a YTS trainee at Molineux.

"But it's great to see them get into the Premiership because I'm 25 and I've never see them play in the top flight.

"I'm enjoying all my football at the moment but it will be nice to rub shoulders with Wolves," he added.

Despite being listed as a reserve fixture, Molineux manager Dave Jones might be tempted to jolt some of his big-name players into action with a trip to Worcester after recent poor showings against Morecambe and Yeovil.

City manager John Barton, a former team-mate of Jones at Everton, expects to discover tomorrow just who his old pal plans to send to St George's Lane, with Wolves poised to send a strong team to face Coventry City at Highfield Road today.

Owen was due to play at Midland Alliance side Quorn today for a mixed City side but hopes to continue his fledgling partnership with Leon Kelly on Monday night.

"I think given time we could get a good partnership going," said Owen.

"He is quick and sharp, takes the knocks, bumps defenders and I think if we can hit it off we can be a handful.

"We played closer together against West Brom and it worked quite well."

Owen scored City's second goal in their 3-2 defeat against West Brom at St George's Lane on Wednesday, having earlier hit the post twice and had a penalty saved in a highly lively performance.
