WORCESTER Rugby Club's pack have to prove themselves every time they take to the field post-Rotherham.

That is the verdict from the Sixways director of rugby John Brain who openly admits their showing in the 38-13 defeat at Millmoor back in November left much to be desired.

Since that day, however, Worcester's pack has improved with players back from injury and a settled selection. And for Brain, the signs are encouraging.

"Really, after Rotherham, they could only improve to be honest," he said.

"We could only go one way. We've done a reasonable job but there is still fair scope for improvement. After that game at Rotherham, every afternoon is a test for them that they must come through and pass.

"It obviously helps, though, when you get certain players back after injury and certain players playing well. That goes without saying really. We have had a fairly settled selection because of that lately."

With injuries to Mark Gabey and Richard Bates, Worcester are still without some of their fire-power but in contrast to the decimation in the backs, Brain is relieved that he has had a fairly settled period for the pack in the last month.

"It's always better to have a settled side but that depends on how the players are performing," Brain added.

"The forwards have been at the forefront of our efforts at Exeter and Bedford recently.

Those two places are not easy venues to go and get results but to come away from their having conceded just one try over the two games is a good effort.

Tomorrow's game at Orrell, however, provides us with another test that we have to come through."
