HEALTH chiefs have hailed a national report which highlighted good results for Redditch patients undergoing hip surgery as a success.
The report, in The Times newspaper, was compiled from data taken from Dr Foster, an independent publisher of healthcare guides.
It suggested patients undergoing operations for a broken hip at the Alexandra Hospital have a higher than average recovery rate.
Worcestershire Royal Hospital also showed higher than average results.
The patients are often elderly and have other medical conditions which need to be taken into account before and after operations.
The Worcester Acute Hospitals NHS Trust was also highlighted in a Birmingham University study as consistently achieving "a low mortality rate".
Trust clinical director for trauma and orthopaedics Karl Bell said: "I am pleased the trust has been noted as providing high-quality care to hip fracture patients.
"Achieving and maintaining these high standards is due to multi-disciplinary working and it is a credit to all of these departments involved in the care of these patients.
"The orthopaedic team work closely with colleagues in A&E, anaesthetics, elderly care and rehabilitation to ensure patients are given the best care possible."
