THE cost of the coronation celebrations enjoyed by residents living in rural areas of Bromsgrove was less than had been anticipated. The final bill totalled £1,286/2s/6d (£1,286.12.5p). This was the equivalent of a little over a two penny rate.

PLANS for a large housing estate at Sidemoor in Bromsgrove were unveiled on land purchased by the town council from Mr and Mrs Rencher. Fronting Broad Street, the development of some 96 houses and 72 flats would eventually link up with estates proposed for Holly Road, Bewell Head Santridge Lane and Stourbridge Road.

A DECISION by Bromsgrove Rovers board to erect floodlights at the Victoria Ground had alarmed residents living nearby. They feared noise from night games would disturb them. But the district council this week gave the club the go-ahead. The Rovers would however, tone down the loudspeakers to try to limit the noise.

CLASS warfare, bickering, intolerance and the continued strife in national politics was the theme of an address given by the vicar of Bromsgrove, the Rev F G Shepherd, at the annual Remembrance Day service at St John's church.

BROMSGROVE Court Leet chose Norman Owen as its new bailiff when it met for its annual meeting. Mr D Howard Wood was the new reeve and Mr Gadd was appointed to assist Mr Holt in his capacity as foreman of the jury - a post he had held for 42 years. Mr Owen said he intended to revive the ceremony of walking the fair.
