DROITWICH Spa had two goals disallowed as they fell at the first hurdle in the Smedley Crooke Cup.

Kevin Blaber's side, two divisions below their opponents, were a goal behind at half time before conceding four after the break.

Gary McGrillan got Spa's goal from the edge of the penalty area to reduce their arrears to 3-1 but Greg Thomas and Alex Kolb both had efforts ruled out before the West Midlands Premier side pulled away.

But, despite the result, the manager was pleased with the way his players performed.

He said: "They were a little too good for us but the scoreline flattered them. We did OK and if we play like that in the league then we will pick up points."

Spa travel to Continental Star Reserves this Saturday.
