DEAR EDITOR - A few days ago, a letter arrived telling me that I was the lucky winner in a competition, which I had certainly not entered and that I had definitely won one of the five very acceptable prizes.
I find that I am not the only 'lucky winner' and for all I know, hundreds might have had a similar notification. But before the prize could be allocated, I must ring a certain number in conformation.
When I read the footnote - in very small print, I see that any call I make could cost up to £9. Also, if I happen to be the winner of a personal computer (fully refurbished!) I pay for delivery and £99 plus VAT for a supplier warranty.
I can guess what my prize will be. I don't think I'll bother.
I do hope other so-called winners will read the small print before they get too excited!
