Woodrush 31
Old Griffinians 17
WOODRUSH powered up their pack to meet the physical challenge of Old Griffs - and got their reward.
The home side started strongly after fielded a very big back row in Matt Playford, Nigel Smith and Dave Warren.
After a good break, centre Danny Ashburn went over for a try which was converted by fly-half Gary Hudson.
Woodrush were having the better of the forward exchanges and, after pressure near the Griffs line, scrum-half Chris Pratt scored after charging down a Griffs kick. Gary Hudson converted.
Griffs replied with a penalty leaving Woodrush leading 14-3 at half-time.
Smith powered over for a try early in the second half with full-back Nigel Simons then scoring in the corner.
Griffs then came back into the game, their pressure resulting in a converted try.
But this was cancelled out when, following a good break from Playford, Smith powered over the line for his second try, converted by Hudson.
Griffs again hit back but Woodrush finished the game with a seconds Simons try after excellent work between the forwards and backs.
