President Hazel Aston began the October meeting by welcoming everyone back after the summer break. She apologised for the abandonment of the September meeting due to yet another power cut. Four members celebrating October birthdays were each given a card together with everyone's best wishes.
The Worcester City guided walk held in August had been a great success. Hazel also thanked Cynthia Caldicott for hosting the annual summer garden party.
There are several forthcoming events for members to look forward to, including a trip to the Birmingham Hippodrome to see Scrooge, a visit to the Symphony Hall in December for The Malcolm Sargeant Memorial Carol Concert, a shopping day in Nottingham and lastly a Christmas pottery workshop to be held at Ceramica in Malvern on December 2.
The business over for the evening Hazel introduced the speaker, Jenny Ashman. Jenny gave members a most interesting and enlightening talk on the work of The County Air Ambulance Service. Since its foundation 12 years ago, the three helicopter ambulances have saved countless lives. They fly every day of the year and operate from dawn till dusk across ten counties that form the West Midlands, and provide a valuable service to the sick and injured.
The evening drew to a close with a collection for the ACWW Pennies for Friendship Appeal. The winner of the October competition was Mary Davis for her autumn flower arrangement.
