A BROMSGROVE taxi driver was robbed of £200 and a mobile phone after he picked up a passenger in Lickey End.

The passenger flagged down the taxi at about 3.55am Saturday morning on the A38 Birmingham Road - just past the Harvester restaurant.

He told the taxi driver he had been to the Marlgrove club and then on to some friends. He then made a call which he told the driver was to his girlfriend and asked her to wait up for him.

The driver took the man to the Oakenshaw area of Redditch and stopped opposite Paddock Lane. He told the man the fare and went to get his wallet where he kept his money.

As the driver turned back to the man his door was opened and a second man took the key out of the car's ignition with one hand and held the driver back with the other. He demanded the man hand over his wallet and the passenger took his mobile phone.

The pair then walked off towards Coldfield Drive and threw the man's car keys back towards the car.

The passenger is a white man, in his mid to late twenties, stocky build and 5ft 10ins tall. He has brown hair and was clean shaven. He was smartly dressed wearing a dark coloured heavy knee length overcoat and dark coloured trousers and shoes.

The second man is white, aged about 30, 6ft tall, with fair crew-cut style hair. He was wearing a zip-up beige bomber jacket.

Bromsgrove police want to speak to anyone who may have been in the Marlgrove and recognise the man.

Anyone with information should call DC Mike Allen on 08457 444 888 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
