A WELL-known and much-loved Bromsgrove GP has died aged 90.

A funeral service for Dr Noel Kenchington was held at St Bartholomew's Church in Church Lane, Tardebigge, last Wednesday. He died on October 29. Dr Kenchington moved to Bromsgrove in 1946 after World War II when he served as a doctor with the Royal Army Medical Service Corps in both India and Burma.

He set up a practise with partner David Mundy in Bromsgrove High Street, opposite the post office and then moved to premises in Windsor Street. It later became St John's Surgery in Kidderminster Road.

Contemporary, Dr Max White of Marlborough Avenue, said: "Noel was very well known and liked by other doctors in the town, nurses and his patients."

During the 1950s and 60s he played a prominent role in the Bromsgrove St John Ambulance as their divisional surgeon. He also administered anaesthetic for two surgeons at Bromsgrove General Hospital.

Later, Noel was a magistrate and sat on the bench for more than 20 years. He was chairman on the Juvenile Panel and then chairman of the Bench of Magistrates.

He married Barbara in 1947 and they lived together in College Road, before moving to North Road. They have one daughter and two sons. The couple were enthusiastic skiers and walkers.

In his spare time Noel was involved with Tardebigge church including the choir, as well a prominent member of the Bromsgrove Choral Society. Dr White added: "The service was well attended by Noel's family, friends and many town doctors. He will be greatly missed."
