CREATIVE youngsters from a Spa first school had a cracking good time when they took part in a design a firework competition.

Bubbly pupils from Chawson First School, in the Wyche Road, took part in the contest to design and create an inactive firework from paper, cardboard and various other classroom materials.

Headteacher Jerry Hughes was delighted at the efforts of the children, who are aged between four and nine.

"The children had the task of making a firework object out of two-D materials and then had to make a three-d object.

"They used a range of skills, including creativity and reasoning to create different effects and the youngsters had a very busy but fun day."
