EVERY side we play at the moment seems to be finding form and Saturday's visitors Hednesford Town are no different.

However we will relish the challenge because it gives us an opportunity to exorcise a few demons following the 5-1 defeat by Newport County two weeks ago.

In football you look for every little advantage and that includes catching sides at the right time.

Unfortunately for us you could say we've been managing to catch a few sides at decidedly the wrong time of late.

For instance since playing and losing twice to Nuneaton they have gone on to hit a bad spell.

Newport in turn began the season dreadfully but by the time they came to St George's Lane were in a good run while Chelmsford have just turned a corner.

In the end it was a good point for us at Billericay, earned with goals from Barry Woolley and Darren Middleton, and Chelmsford will be a formidable team for many sides as their 2-0 win at Havant & Waterlooville illustrated.

What pleased me about that was the spirit and guts we showed to twice come from behind.

Ultimately though we've got 42 games to play and we've got to get as many points in those games irrespective of whether teams are in form or not - that's the top and tail of it.

At the moment we are clearly not getting enough points. We are still feeding off the back of our early season haul of points but we've sucked that dry and we need to put another run together.

It would be nice to achieve what we want to do with the current crop of players but the reality is that might not be the case.

I'm looking to build a team situation but individually I'm looking for each and every one of the players to nail their colours to the mast and say 'I want to be part of this'.

People can be sometimes be critical of the players, myself included, but they are a genuine, honest set of players that want to do well for all parties involved in the club.

But at the end of the day they have to be good enough - this league demands that.

For the last seven or eight years it's been getting more competitive and picking a winner for the league this time round is extremely difficult.

Crawley seem to be in pole position at the moment but they'll need to build on what they have done in recent years when they've come flying out of the traps but fallen away.

Nuneaton until recently had looked possible title candidates while Weymouth have picked up a little bit so it really is difficult to call.

For our part we need to keep plugging away, beginning with Saturday and Hednesford.

Home advantage could be pivotal but playing in front of the St George's Lane crowd brings its own pressures.

I was talking to a manager a few weeks ago and gained an interesting insight into how Worcester is perceived.

While most of them would love to attract the kind of gates we do, the word around the division is that if you keep it tight the supporters at St George's Lane start to put the players under pressure and the game begins to go the visitors' way.

I think there is a grain of truth in that allied to the fact that teams enjoy playing in front of bigger crowds and one of the better pitches in the league.
