I AM taken aback by the arrogance of Redi Action Group representatives Sandra Horne and Michaela Carpenter's sweeping statement regarding how they are representative of all the community (Letters, November 5).
With 1,000 signatures, they are representative of less than one per cent of the borough's community.
I would respectfully point out that not all 'less well-off' members of our community use the Redi Centre.
I suggest this group take a good look at Redditch. We are a diverse population with pockets of deprivation throughout the town, not all dependent on the use of the Redi Centre.
While appreciating the centre offers a much-needed service to a minority of the community, there is a bigger picture here.
Tough decisions have to be made by our elected members in order to balance the books.
There may be a reprieve for the next 12 months for the Redi but what happens after this sticking plaster - how is the council supposed to find more money, at what cost and to whom?
Does this group wish to be responsible for an increase in council tax?
A rise in council tax would harm the very people this group claim to be representative of, not to mention the rest of the community who would be penalised as a consequence.
The current problems with some of our councillors show they are not all that concerned with what is really important in this town - the making of tough decisions to stop council tax rises - but are readying themselves for the elections next year.
The attempts of the Labour and Liberal Democrats to increase their popularity may well backfire when council tax rises to accomodate these now seemimgly popular decisions. Who will be counting the cost then?
