East Glos 3, Bretforton 1
IT WAS was the turn of East Glos to entertain Bretforton's first team at Cheltenham last Saturday in the latest Severn League Northern Division One clash.
The home side made the better start and the visiting defence of Jane Wheeler, Bobbie Handley, Lorna Beddis and Kate Mitchell found themselves under some pressure to keep the forwards at bay.
Midfielders Lisa Workman, Deb Slatter, Blanche Surman and Julie Hall all worked hard to try and breakdown the East Glos defence.
Workman and Mitchell worked well down the right to make some inroads, but chances were at a premium.
East Glos took the lead with a well-worked goal with 15 minutes of the first half remaining.
The second half saw continued pressure from the hosts who doubled their lead with a sharp shot from an acute angle.
Wheeler made a number of runs from the back but couldn't make any inroads to the goal. Player of the match Mitchell also worked hard on the right with Workman and they were rewarded when the latter passed for Slatter to score with a fine shot.
Despite all the hard work and some excellent saves by goalkeeper Vicky Webb, East Glos managed a third goal with an excellent reverse stick flick.
The match ball was sponsored by W J Findon & son.
