A Stourport-on-Severn man has been ordered to carry out 100 hours' unpaid work for the community after being involved in a late-night fracas in Bewdley.
John Bates used abusive language and gave one man a bear hug, said Samantha Forsyth, prosecuting at Worcester Crown Court.
Judge John Cavell told 20-year-old Bates, of The Scots, Astley Burf, that he was beginning to build up a record as "a violent young man".
Bates admitted threatening behaviour and was also ordered to pay £286 costs.
Miss Forsyth said two groups of men had been playing pool amicably in a pub but when they met up again at a taxi rank, violent behaviour broke out.
Bates had been involved in three public disorder offences in a year. One involved affray at a YMCA when he threatened the director and a member of staff.
Ben Mills, defending, said Bates was drunk at the time of the Bewdley incident and was confused about what had happened.
But he had tried to cure his drink problem and hoped to train as a chef.
