THE Mayor of Tenbury, Councillor Janice Gluyas, laid the first wreath of poppies at the town War Memorial on Sunday.

The mayor and representatives of Tenbury Royal British Legion, the Worcestershire Regiment, Tenbury firefighters and Tenbury police officers paid homage to the men and women of the town who gave their lives in both world wars.

The exceptionally large parade, led by Tenbury Town Band and watched by a big crowd, marched from the auction yard to St Mary's, Church, standards flying, for the annual Service of Remembrance conducted by the Rector, Preb Alan Jevons.

Scout, guide, cub, brownie and beaver groups also paid their tribute, laying their own small posies of poppies at the memorial.

The Two Minute silence was observed, followed by Last Post and Reveille.

St Michael's Church held its own Remembrance Service at the War Memorial in the churchyard at St Michaels and All Angels, led by the Rev Michael Staines.

During the service, prayers were said for Nikki Gledhill, of Upper Rochford, who was tragically killed in a riding accident in Field Lane, near Berrington, on Saturday.
