POLICE are still searching for the mother of abandoned baby Isobel - more than a month after she was found in the toilets of a Kidderminster shopping centre.

And police spokeswoman Joanne Hammond, who has been involved in the nationwide hunt from the start, admitted the likelihood of finding the elusive parent was becoming increasingly remote.

Baby Isobel, who was named by hospital staff, was found in the Rowland Hill Shopping Centre on Friday, October 10.

Detective Sergeant Alan Mardell, of Kidderminster Police, said they were working with health authorities across the country to try and trace her mother - but had not received any information about her identification as yet.

"Baby Isobel is doing well with her foster carers and at the moment and social services are considering the next steps with regard to her care," he added.

"We would still like to hear from Isobel's mother as we still want to reunite the two.

"If she reads this, she can speak to me in confidence on 08457 444888."

Mrs Hammond added: "We've been liaising with other forces across the country who have had babies abandoned to find out if there is a pattern to the mothers' behaviour and if the mothers returned as a result of police work or them coming back to claim the baby.

"But each case is individual and it hasn't actually led us in one direction - and that's why we're focusing our attention on health workers."
