TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD: It was all change for the Townswomen's Guild when their November meeting was held in the afternoon for the first time; the meeting began with a talk by Mrs C Weaver. She showed a selection of slides on Springs and Fountains of the Malvern Hills and her commentary included some intriguing snippets of information. Mrs Loach gave a vote of thanks.
The chairman was pleased to welcome back Mrs Martin after her recent fall, also five visitors. Mrs Bennett is now back at home after a long stay in hospital.
The outing to the Forest of Dean had been enjoyable and thanks were expressed to Mr T Beale for organising it and giving a commentary throughout the journey.
The Literary Appreciation group had discussed the book Germinal by Emil Zola at their recent meeting which Mrs Loach said had been a daunting read.
The scrabble group is meeting again regularly and the skittles team play on the second Tuesday of the month.
Mrs Lockhart announced that a Christmas hamper (to be the first prize in next month's raffle) had been donated by a generous guild member and there will be two other good prizes.
The sales table raised £46.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday, December 2, in Wulstan Hall at 2pm when a representative will attend from the MS local branch and Mr H Dawson will present Greetings from the Grotto.
ROYAL BRITISH LEGION WOMEN'S SECTION: The monthly meeting took place at St Wulstan's Hall. The chairman, Wendy Griffiths, opened the meeting, the secretary and treasurer reports were given. Ivy Reed gave her report on sick members she had visited.
The speaker for the evening was Jill Hyatt from Age Concern. She gave a talk on her work. After refreshments members enjoyed a quiz, this was won by S Elphick and B Horton.
U3A: The next meeting will be held on November 18 in the Committee Room at the Civic Centre at 2pm and will include an illustrated talk by Anne Bradford entitled Ghosts, Murders and Scandals. The U3A is intended to cater for people who are no longer in full time employment and who wish to share learning with others. The Pershore U3A has a wide range of special interest groups and welcomes new members at its meetings.
