CYCLING: A determined cyclist has been rewarded for a brave comeback after a nasty 30mph crash put him in hospital.
Kidderminster's Ian White broke four ribs and punctured a lung in the accident but refused to let it put him off.
And now the 27-year-old has claimed this year's Midlands Super Series for downhill mountain bike racing over six rounds.
White proved consistency is key after a string of second places made him overall points winner in the main senior class.
An outright victory eluded him in all six rounds, many contested along the border between England and Wales, and he was run close by Stourport's Dave List who finished second.
White, a technical consultant at Kidderminster firm Amada, now moves up a category to expert class and hopes to continue to do well with the backing of Ludlow's Pearce Cycles.
He said: "I'm quite proud of my achievement as just after last Christmas I had a really big accident when I hit a patch of ice.
"I was out of action until around about April so to come back and win this was great. Maybe something like that gives you more drive and determination."
