HOCKEY: Hopes were raised when Kidderminster took the lead but they eventually fell 4-1 at home to high-flying Wednesday in the West Midlands League Premier Division.

A neat switch enabled Will Good to crack a low shot past the otherwise outstanding Wednesbury goalkeeper from the town's third penalty corner.

Top scorer Andy Pocknell had already tested the visitors with two superb efforts and Kidderminster had also been forced into a positional change.

Wednesbury's first shot resulted in sweeper Gary Burkes suffering an ankle injury and Paul Edwards filled his place.

Kidderminster did press their more experienced and physical opponents to win short corners and take the lead through Good.

But an unlucky yellow card for Richard Wheeler saw Wednesbury score twice during his temporary suspension with the second a reverse-stick shot from the top of the D.

In the second half, with Burkes recovered and Wheeler returning, Kidderminster again began well but Wednesbury maintained the momentum they gained in the first period.

Martin Roberts could only help a shot on its way into the back of the net for the third goal and the home side had to battle constantly to prevent their opponents running riot.

They were unable to avoid conceding a fourth goal and Wednesbury had a fifth attempt disallowed.

On Saturday Kidderminster travel to Bloxwich who are bottom of the table without a point.

Stone 2 Kidderminster 2nds 3

Chris Brazier's winner five minutes from the end gave the seconds their first victory in 18 months.

The Wyre Forest side fell behind early on but equalised through David Mills to leave the score level at the interval.

Stone pushed forward to score a second but Mills replied again with his second from a penalty flick after Peter Grummitt was floored in the area.

Brazier grabbed the winner for Kidderminster who were inspired by a fine display from Danny Mazurick.

Kidderminster 3rds 1 Bromsgrove 3

The thirds lost their undefeated record as Mark Mansell's short-corner goal against the leaders was just a consolation.

Fourth-placed Kidderminster started out on the attack but fell behind to a break-away first goal and then a mistake led to a second.

Bromsgrove notched a third early in the second half and Kidderminster pressed but with no reward apart from Mansell's strike.
