Signed a one-year deal with Harriers in September 2003 after turning down an offer from Rochdale where he scored two goals in six games in a non-contract spell.
Betts, who started off as a 16-year-old in the Doncaster Rovers first team, had been released by Division One side Coventry in the summer.
The competitive midfielder captained Coventry's successful youth team after a move to Highfield Road in 1998 which became the subject of a protracted dispute over the nominal transfer fee.
Betts played three games for the Sky Blues in the Premiership and then 10 in Division One after they were relegated as well as experiencing loan periods at Plymouth and Lincoln.
The Nuneaton-based player will step straight into the Harriers midfield with the idea of giving Danny Williams a more attacking role.
