BROMSGROVE Rugby Club - riding on the crest of a wave following last Saturday's Malvern massacre - are up against a potential dampener in the Powergen Intermediate Cup.

The Finstall Park side beat Malvern 44-12 in the Midlands Two (West) promotion showdown last weekend but take on ambitious Burton at home in the third round clash this Saturday.

Burton - unbeaten at the top of Midlands Three West (North) - look set to test out Bromsgrove but skipper Dave Clark is hoping for a repeat dose of the Malvern magic.

"Without doubt it was the best performance of the season," he said. "That's a massive margin for two teams who in the past have had close results. The rest of the league will sit up and take note.

"The scale of the win over a good Malvern side will send shockwaves through the league. The forwards dominated from start to finish and set the platform for the backs to perform."

Clark's comments were echoed by his coach Dean Ball. "We were in control for about 80 per cent of the match," he said.

"We all knew the importance of it in terms of getting a gap between us and the rest of the league and keeping up to speed with Derby.

"Hopefully we can replicate that performance now on Saturday, building on the errors we did make. We just want to sustain the momentum."

Luctonians, meanwhile, hope to bounce back from a disappointing defeat at Leicester Lions.

The Midlands One side take on Old Laurentians at Mortimer Park and are favourites to progress.

League action sees Kidderminster Carolians entertain Dixonians in Midlands Three West (North), the game having been brought forward by a week.
