A KIDDERMINSTER air cadet has been given a prestigious new role as "right hand man" to the Lord Lieutenant for Worcestershire, Michael Brinton.
Michael Davies, 17, was chosen by Mr Brinton to serve as his first Lord Lieutenant's Cadet, a historical role which had fallen away in recent years.
"Mr Brinton wanted to revive the scheme, which honours young cadets," said Ray Seale, from the Lord Lieutenant's office.
Michael, who joined the 156 Kidderminster Squadron Air Training Corps three years ago and is now a Cadet Flight Sergeant, impressed Mr Brinton with his self assurance and determination.
"He was clearly a young man with a clear vision of his future and how he wanted to achieve his goals," said Mr Seale.
The appointment was made through the Reserve Forces and Cadet Association.
Michael, who lives at Alveley, has already gained his BTEC in Aviation Studies and is awaiting a place at the forces' gliding school to achieve his gliding wings.
He is studying for his A-levels and hopes to go on to become an RAF pilot.
He was presented with his Lord Lieutenant's Cadet badge in a surprise ceremony at Worcester Cathedral on Sunday, following the Remembrance Day service.
His father Glyn said the whole family was "very proud" of his appointment.
