RESIDENTS want more litter bins rather than play equipment if money is spent improving a neglected Droitwich beauty spot.
Over the summer, Worcestershire County Council asked 970 Primsland residents their opinions on how to rejuvenate the public open space by Primsland Way.
Questionnaires were handed out to residents, before a consultation took place at Spring Meadow pub in September.
The survey revealed the most unsatisfactory aspect of the site was litter, followed by dog fouling, an overgrown appearance and garden waste dumping.
Three quarters of the 333 respondents said they did not wish to see any form of play equipment at all, and many felt play equipment would encourage groups of youths to hang around.
Susan Lock, of Grosvenor Way, and Trevor Edwards, of Arkle Close ,both responded to the questionnaires.
Ms Lock, who considered chip shop wrappers were a big problem, said her priority was for a vandalism-free area, which meant forfeiting play equipment.
"The Droitwich park has some really good facilities, but they're regularly spoilt as a result of youth snot having very much to do in the area," said the 44-year-old.
Focal point
"If this spot were to become another focal point for activities I see that becoming a problem."
Mr Edwards said he would like to see facilities for skateboarders and BMX bike riders.
He said he was disappointed a majority of the residents did not want play equipment.
"There's no facilities in the area for the kids, and a lot of young families are moving around here," said the 64-year-old.
"However, I'll back anything that will help the community as a whole."
Sixty-six per cent of the survey respondents said they would like to see more tree and shrub planting, and other residents suggested dog bins and litter bins.
The site, prone to tipping and litter dumping, has been a controversial topic for over 15 years.
It was handed over to the people of Drotwich Spa by housing giant Barratt West Midlands, in August, this year.
"After years of waiting, it's great to see that things are now moving forward," said Droitwich Spa town councillor, Eileen Hope.
A meeting with the Countryside Agency and the residents' group is to take place this month to look at funding possibilities.
Anyone interested in joining the residents' group should call Diane Malley on 01905 774258.
