ON Wednesday, November 5, members of Pauntley Sewing Group met for a social evening. The hostess was Mrs Daphne
Marklow. Mrs Emma England won the raffle. A bring-and-buy stall was held and the proceeds will be used to buy items for Pauntley Church. The next meeting is on Wednesday, December 3, at 7.30pm, at Hook Cottage, Upleadon, by kind invitation of Mrs Jane Bristow. New members are welcome.
On Saturday, November 8, Mr Eric Solesbury placed a poppy wreath on the war memorial at Pauntley Churchyard. The memorial is to those who fell in the First World War. Pauntley was fortunate in that no loss was sustained in the Second World War.
On Sunday, November 9, the service at St John the Evangelist Church, Pauntley, was matins and remembrance conducted by Mrs Betty Bullock. The two-minute silence was observed at 11am. Accompanying the seasonal hymns was Mrs Emma England. The bible readings were by Mr Eric Solesbury and Mr Tim England was the sidesman.
On Sunday, November 16, the service at 11am will be parish communion conducted by the Rev Michael Ward. On Sunday, November 23, the service will be evening prayer at 6pm with the rector Rev Patricia Phillips. On Sunday, November 30, which is Advent Sunday, there will be a benefice service at St Bartholomew's Church in Redmarley at 10am, when the guest preacher will be Rev Canon Iain Marchant, former rector of Newent.
Don't forget the quiz evening tomorrow (Saturday) at Pauntley Memorial Hall, Brand Green. The time is 7.30pm and tickets are £4 per person to include refreshments. It promises to be a good evening out. Contact Eunice Cooper on 01531 820090 for further details.
As there will be no Christmas concert this year, it is proposed to hold a Christmas get-together on Tuesday, December 16. A warm welcome will be given to everyone, especially the friends of the Leadon Vale Singers who have supported the memorial hall so well in the past. More details later.
