A teenager from Malvern has organised events to raise funds for a trip to Chile.
Jenna Hopkinson will be working for youth development charity, Raleigh International, and needs to raise £3,500 for the three-month expedition to Chile in January.
The first fundraising event is a musical evening at Hanley Castle High School tomorrow (Saturday). The event, entitled Rhythms for Raleigh, features Med Snookes, a local folk and blues musician, complete with band. Tickets are £6, including supper, and are available from the school or Miss Hopkinson on 01684 574790. A raffle will also take place in the evening.
An equestrian table-top sale has also been arranged for November 28 at Welland Village Hall. People can hire a table for £10 and sell all goods relating to horses. The sale starts at 7.30pm and entrance is free.
Miss Hopkinson, a former Hanley Castle High School pupil, will join around 12 teenagers from across the country and take part in three projects to benefit the people or the environment in Chile.
"I'm off to university in Cardiff next September and wanted to travel in the meantime, but didn't want to go on my own. This way, my trip is structured, and I'll be working with others, doing something to help the people of Chile. I'm really looking forward to it," she said.
Miss Hopkinson is currently working for her gold Duke of Edinburgh award and helping out at the Acorns Hospice shop in Barnards Green.
