LUNG disease patients from Malvern will be lending their support to an international awareness day.

Members of the Breathe Easy Malvern and Worcester group, part of the British Lung Foundation, will be putting on a coffee morning and display at the Guildhall, in Worcester, on Wednesday from 9.30am.

The event is part of 2nd World COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) Day. COPD is an umbrella term for conditions such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema, which restrict a person's ability to breathe.

The Breathe Easy group says only 160 out of 266 hospitals nationally offer some form of pulmonary rehabilitation.

South Worcestershire Primary Care Trust does offer rehabilitation, although demand outstrips supply.

Group spokesman Mo Davidson, from Malvern, said earlier this year the service was threatened with being axed because of the PCT's financial problems but was reprieved after pressure from members.
