WELLAND had skipper Alex Jelleyman back from running the New York marathon - and raising £1,000 for Get Kids Going charity - and keeper Will Eccelston back on leave from submarine training in Scotland to tackle Koinonia who had, the previous week, beaten league leaders Pershore Manor.
WELLAND ATHLETIC 3, KOINONIA 1
Welland moved fast down each flank and when Si Craddock outpaced his marker to the goal line, his cross found Holland at the far post who laid it back for Derrington to convert with ease.
A neat pass from Steve Morris put Tom Crump through for a second goal on 30 minutes with Koinonia hardly mounting an attack. However, a lack of concentration in Welland's defence allowed Koinonia to break through giving no chance to Eccleston in goal.
The second half saw Welland continue their attacks but Koinonia defended well until man of the match Craddock got a deserved third goal for Welland after an Ed Wray corner to ease the tension.
Substitute Paul Edwards, in midfield, created many more opportunities but when he was brought down in the box, Tom Crump's penalty was well saved by the keeper.
Welland, sponsored by Bio-Diagnostics, visit West Malvern tomorrow (Saturday), kick off 2.15pm, meet at the Hill, Upton 1pm.
