WEST Malvern's poor home Worcester League Division One form continued on Saturday when they were beaten 2-1 at home by Goodrest Sports.

WEST MALVERN 1, GOODREST SPORTS 2

The West opened brightly and played some good football but failed to make the most of the chances they created. Goodrest took the lead in the 44th minute when the West failed to close down a back four player whose cross-come-shot completely deceived them and sailed into the net.

The lead was short lived because on the 50th minute good build up resulted in a through ball which Graeme Maclennan ran on to to beat the keeper with ease.

Although both sides created chances, neither made the most of them. Goodrest replaced their goalkeeper after 60 minutes when collecting a ball, he fell awkwardly and twisted his ankle and had to leave the field. The replacement keeper was tested on numerous occasions but the West could not find the finishing touch.

In the 85th minute sloppy defending resulted in the West conceding a penalty, which Goodrest duly obliged by scoring from the spot.

Although the West pushed forward they could not beat the makeshift keeper.

Overall it was a much improved performance from the previous week and West Malvern were unlucky not to share the points.

Tomorrow (Saturday) the West are at home to Welland Athletic, kick off 2.15pm. Players to report to the dressing room at 1.30pm.

The West are sponsored jointly by Amey and the Cross Keys.
