MALVERN United entertained Ombersley at Sling Lane with the manager having the luxury of being able to choose from a full squad for the first time this season.
MALVERN UNITED 1, OMBERSLEY COLTS 4
With Ombersley looking to get a bagful of goals they attacked from the off and were rewarded with a goal after just six minutes.
United replied five minutes later when Dominic Portman took a free kick just outside his own 18 yard box, hitting it far into the opponents half to be met by captain Liam Harford who deftly lobbed the advancing keeper. This inspired United and they piled on the pressure looking for another goal with Jimmy Lonsdale and Craig Baker in midfield feeding Jamie Faulkner at every opportunity, but to no avail. Just before half time Ombersley again went ahead when a high drifting ball suddenly dipped over the stranded keeper into the net.
The second half started much as the first with Ombersley scrambling another goal after five minutes of the restart. To United's credit they never dropped their heads and although under tremendous pressure the back four of John Davies, Craig Smith, Dom Portman and Gareth Atkinson held firm and the introduction of Mike James added to the security. With hard working Chris Crane and Andy Nolan's penetrating throws it looked like United would pull back the deficit but right on the whistle a speculative shot into the penalty area took a deflection to give keeper Alex Jenkins no chance.
A creditworthy performance by the whole United squad was capped by man of the match Craig Smith.
After match refreshments were provided by Reg and Ann at the Cross Keys.
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U14s 4, EVESHAM UNITED U14s 2
THERE was some fine football played in this Mercian Festival League match between last year's league winners and runners-up.
Wanderers got their first goal within two minutes when a great through ball from Luke Butler sent Ryan Mansbridge clear of the Evesham defence for the tall striker to finish powerfully. The next soon followed as a quick throw in went to Luke Butler who dummied the defence well before scoring.
In the second half Paul Jordan added two more goals for the Wanderers, the first a great header from a corner. Although four goals down Evesham never stopped playing attractive football but Ollie Mason was in dominating form and Calum Campbell tireless in Wanderers' midfield.
Nevertheless they did get through and it took some spectacular saves from stand-in goalie Max White to keep them out. Even he couldn't stop two great headed goals from Phil Pennycote at the end of the match, which was sponsored by Pole Elm Garage, Callow End.
WELLAND U13s 7,
OLDBURY PARK TIGERS U13s 0
WELLAND U13s finally showed their finishing abilities against a decent Oldbury side in a game nowhere as one-sided as the scoreline might suggest.
The Welland scorers were Tom Pugh (a beautiful strike from the edge of the area), Josh Lewis, Will Brown (two), Luke Fain, Nathan Budd and the highlight a great individual effort from Ed Haynes, his first ever goal in five years with the club.
Man of the match for Welland was their hard working striker, Will Brown, although attacking full backs Pugh and Cathal McTernan also starred being involved in five of the seven goals. Despite the home side's dominance goalkeeper Barton Mathews had a busy afternoon and was forced to make several excellent saves from the dangerous Oldbury attack.
EVESHAM UNITED U12s 0,
NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U12s 3
AFTER early pressure from Newtown it was Evesham who nearly took the lead with a stunning shot that forced Sports keeper Chris Reynolds into a remarkable reflex save.
The match continued with end to end football that was a credit to both teams but Newtown coming closer to scoring with Joe Bament shooting wide on two occasions when it looked easier to score.
Evesham had the upper hand late on in the first half but Newtown's back four ably marshalled by Ashley Heron held firm. Newtown's first goal came from a corner kick which skidded through the box for Josh White to sidefoot home. That goal forced Evesham into attacking in numbers in an attempt to get something out of this game, but it also left their keeper poorly supported in defence.
The result was two further goals for Newtown, both simple tap in's from Louis Loader and Oscar Hooper.

NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U12s 1, MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U12s 1
NEWTOWN Sport's entertained Malvern Town Wanderers in what turned out to be a thoroughly entertaining encounter.
Both teams started well and attacked out of defence throughout the game. At no time did either team take control, and in all areas it was a well balanced, competitive match. Malvern Town went into the lead just after the break when Alex Bacothanasis got round Newtown's defence and shot low; giving keeper Chris Reynolds no chance.
Within five minutes Newtown had levelled when some fine, determined, one touch play by Chris Debonis and Josh Allmark freed the ball for Andy Matthews to bustle through two defenders to grab the deserved equalizer.
The game continued with waves of attacks from both teams, but it was Sports who nearly stole the points when Louis Loader's neat pass found Josh Allmark whose cross just eluded Chris DeBonis in the six yard box.
This was an excellent sporting encounter from two young teams and a credit to junior football.

BROMYARD TOWN U12S GIRLS 2,
FERNDALE YOUTH U12 GIRLS 2
BROMYARD Girls maintained their unbeaten home run with a well deserved point in their Mercian League tie against high-flying Ferndale.
Bromyard began brightly and a neat move saw top scorer Grace Rogers hit the crossbar from the edge of the penalty area.
Ferndale though looked dangerous on the counter attack and it needed a fine one-on- one save from Bromyard keeper Winnie Cowley to prevent the visitors from taking the lead.
The deadlock was broken midway through the half by Bromyard when a fine passing move was finished off by striker Grace Rogers.
Ferndale hit back quickly to level the score and then from a penalty scored their second to go in one up at half time
After the interval Bromyard pushed forward looking for an equaliser. Ferndale meanwhile continued to look threatening on the break and at the heart of Bromyard's defence Rissa Probert made a number of crucial tackles and interceptions to prevent the visitors from extending their lead.
Bromyard's pressure was eventually rewarded when a deflected shot from inspirational captain Claire Almond found the back of the net.
Although chances fell to both teams there were no further goals and the resulting share of the spoils was a fair result.
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS COLTS U9S 2, LEIGH & Bransford CUBS 0
THIS was the well-deserved first league win of the season for the Colts, whose performance improves at every match.
Joel Wright, Tom Busher, and Josh Seabourne produced strong attacking play from the start and this resulted in a good goal with Josh Seabourne lobbing the keeper from the edge of the penalty area.
Leigh and Bransford went on the attack in the second half but Harry Tawse and Max Howie were sturdy in defence. Stan Mason broke away on the wing and gave an incisive pass to Tom Busher who put a powerful shot past the keeper.
Brandon Hudson and Alex Williams kept the pressure on the Leigh and Bransford goal until the very end of the match, but Colts' goalie Callum Godfrey was also called on to make some excellent saves.
