FOR the past few years the flower beds in Victoria Park, both in winter and summer, have been much admired by many wheelchair bound and mobile people using the park and on their way to and from the shops.
What do we have now? Eleven black coffin-like boxes containing dull looking plants, one ugly black seat and a display board which steams up in the wet weather, leaving just three flower beds. I cannot see that with maturity the plants in the black boxes will look as good as the colourful pansies, sweet Williams, wallflowers etc that have enhanced the area in the past.
I am in favour of anything to brighten the lives of all people, able and disabled, but this Sensory Garden will hardly fill this role. Most of the regular people using the park that I have spoken to are not admirers of the new arrangement.
Is this yet another white (black) elephant agreed by the town council?
