PLANS for a single site headquarters for Malvern Hills District Council are being abandoned.

The council has spent £50,000 looking at suitable sites for the project.

However, its ruling executive board agreed at a meeting on Tuesday night not to pursue the idea any further.

Instead, £60,000 will be used to improve the current sites.

The council had favoured the depot site in Pickersleigh Road as the site for the headquarters, but a large part of this site has now been earmarked for a new health centre to be built by South Worcestershire Primary Care Trust.

Coun Clive Smith: "Over the last 12 months, everything has been said. This is a prudent and sensible way forward and I am pleased we have made this decision."
