KEEP on giving us the bags," read Andy Scott's letter heading of Saturday, November 1.
Hear, hear and I hope the city council will take note of Mrs Scott's reminder, if the momentum of the new kerbside recycling scheme is not to be lost.
Also on Monday, November 3, the Evening News published an encouraging article full of statistics and proposed targets of the new recycling scheme.
Apparently, the council has predicted to gather 4,000 tons of recyclable waste in the year of the scheme.
Incidentally, one wonders why the residents of Terrace Walk in Rainbow Hill are not given the recyclable bags, so they are allowed to participate in sorting out their own rubbish.
Anyway, however successful and popular these recycling initiatives are, at the end of the day, they are merely dealing with the symptom and not the cause.
Surely, our environment would be much healthier is some of the tonnage of recyclable waste was not produced in the first place?
