THE mystery location of a famous painting by Worcester-born artist Benjamin Williams Leader may have been discovered.
An Evening News reader claims the painting, entitled A Summer's Day - When the South Winds Congregate In Crowds, was painted from the right-hand side of Church Lane, near Whittington Church, Whittington, near Worcester, overlooking a farm gate.
The woman, who did not want to be named, said she took a photograph at the site last week as she was standing over the farm gate.
"It looks like the exact spot," she said. "I read the article and I know the artist was there all those years ago.
"I was just out to have a walk because it was such a nice day.
"The actual painting really is wonderful."
The search to find the location began following an appeal by Sotheby's, which is auction the painting Thursday, November 27.
The massive painting, which measures 7ft by 4ft, is expected to go for approximately £120,000.
Leader moved to Whittington in 1862 from where he explored the surrounding countryside.
